What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

I bought an Ergodox EZ a few years ago. While I enjoyed it at first, I realized that I was avoiding certain workflows because it lacked arrow and function keys, forcing you to rely on different layers.

I like split keyboards, and I also like thumb clusters, but I'd really prefer something with dedicated arrow and function keys.

Update for future googlers:

I ended up buying the Kinesis Freestyle 2 with the extra wrist rests. It’s not mechanical but I couldn’t justify the extra cost for both an ergonomic and mechanical keyboard.

LXQt 2.4 is now available as the latest release of the lightweight desktop environment built on Qt. Among the more noticeable changes is improved Wayland behavior.

In LibFM-Qt and PCManFM-Qt, desktop item visibility is now handled consistently on multi-monitor Wayland setups, allowing different “Hide Desktop Items” settings for each display. Moreover, LXQt Session now separates settings for X11 and Wayland sessions, with Wayland-specific options shown only when the lxqt-wayland-session package is installed.

A new compilation video features some rare clips of delivery robots getting their metal chassis kicked in.

The compilation was posted to TikTok and has already been removed. Raise your hand if you're surprised at all!

For quite a while I had been longing to measure the waterlevel in my well.

The first attempt with a HC-SR04 failed due to distance (4 meter deep well) and problems of how to mount it in the well. Then I came across the JSN-SR04 sensor. It's all running on an esp2866 (I found it to have better wifi than the esp32). Several parts re-used from old projects. Added small solar panel to keep it all self contained. Data is sent to homeassistant (mqtt) and a bit of log/debug data to syslog.

Due to circumstances had it been lying on my desk quite a while, but finally, today I was able to install it!
I screwed a drainpipe cap to the lid of the well and mounted the sensor in another. A simple pipe connector in between works like a charm.
