Cowabunga, Turtle fans — we’re back with another round of exclusive reveals! This week brings not one, but three all-new cover debuts and solicitations to get you hyped for what’s next in the TMNT universe. First up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey Jones #3 (from Alex Paknadel & Amancay Nahuelpan) introduces the ferocious Ludovic, a snow leopard mutant ready to test Casey’s limits in battle.

Then, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures #32 (from Erik Burnham & Dan Schoening) delivers some holiday mayhem, as a Krampus-wannabe goat mutant threatens to ruin Raphael and Casey’s shopping trip.

And if that’s not enough, don’t forget to check out the latest solicitation for TMNT: Journeys #4, a chilling winter tale of robots, aliens, and assassins that promises one of the Turtles’ most dangerous adventures yet.

At New York Comic Con, IDW is offering fans an ashcan preview of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, and I was lucky enough to get an early look at the inks and lettering. While it’s only six pages, it was enough to leave me excited for what’s to come in this new era for the Turtles.

Pixel Dan: I’m obsessed with the history of how toys are made—especially the original Playmates TMNT line. Today, thanks to my friends at Definitive Films (the team behind Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), we’re diving into newly unearthed interview footage with Steve Varner of Varner Studios—the prototyping house behind classic TMNT, Toxic Crusaders, Star Trek, WildC.A.T.s, and more.

Steve opens boxes of prototypes from the late ’80s/early ’90s and walks through the real production pipeline: clay originals → silicone molds → wax masters → hard copy masters, plus the paint master used to communicate paint masks to factories. You’ll hear how Varner’s team often made at least two hard copies: one unpainted for tooling and one painted to guide deco—aka “soup to nuts.” We also glimpse jaw-dropping unreleased pieces—including the long-whispered Toxic Crusaders “Snail Man”—and a wild Jim Lee TMNT crossover concept tied to Playmates’ licenses of both TMNT and Jim Lee’s characters at the time.

If you love production-level details (shrink during casting, parting lines, articulation decisions made after a one-piece sculpt, and how wax/urethane hard copies traveled to the factory for steel tooling), this is candy. If you love lost toys that never hit shelves, it’s a feast.

⚠️ Good news: Definitive Films is offering a new documentary cut packed with hours of never-before-seen TMNT archive footage—and Steve Varner is auctioning select prototypes shown here. Links are in the description. If you went to the theatrical re-release of the 1990 film, that unreleased opening reel you saw? Yep—Definitive Films.

This December marks the start of a bold new chapter for the best-selling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ongoing series. Eisner Award-winning writer Gene Luen Yang (Superman Smashes the Klan, American Born Chinese, Avatar: The Last Airbender) teams up with fan-favorite artist Freddie E. Williams II (Batman/TMNT, Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) for issue #13, kicking off a fresh storyline just in time for the holidays. To make it even more special, IDW has gathered an all-star roster of artists to create a dazzling lineup of covers that are perfect for gifting—or collecting.

To celebrate the milestone, IDW is offering a special blind bag variant, giving fans the thrill of surprise with every purchase. Inside, collectors will find one of the main covers or one of several rare exclusives only available through the blind bag.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13—the debut of Yang and Williams’ run and the first appearance of a mysterious new villain—hits comic shops on December 10.

A new era of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles calls for some splashy variant covers. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Juan Ferreyra are nearing the end of their run on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which means a new creative team needs to come on and pick up the baton. TMNT fans are in luck, because the very talented team of Eisner Award-winning writer Gene Luen Yang and fan-favorite artist Freddie E. Williams II is coming on to take the Heroes in a Half-Shell to new heights. That run doesn’t start until December, but in the meantime, IDW Publishing has some new variant covers for the first issue to show to fans.

Daniel Warren Johnson’s Cover E features the Turtles at a skateboard park, having a good ol’ time with the citizens of New York City. Michelangelo is high up in the air on a skateboard that has the word “COWABUNGA” written on the bottom of it.

TMNT Tuesday returns this week with a special treat: the exclusive preview of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder #1! It’s a series that’s going full-force, as Watters said on AIPT a few weeks ago:

“We’re removing his clan and his resources,” Watters said. “This is Shredder relying on his wits and his blades… exploiting his knowledge of the secret corners of the world that allowed him to build up the Foot Clan in the first place.”

Paired with artist Michele Bandini, the book is a must-have for revitalizing one of the most iconic villains in media over the last thirty years.

A shell-shocking saga of mutants, martial arts and New York mayhem, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy brought comic book grit, practical effects wizardry and pizza-fuelled fun to a generation of moviegoers, helping turn four sewer-dwelling brothers into global pop culture icons.

Launching in 1990 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, director Steve Barron's gritty, high-energy adaptation of the underground comic became a box office phenomenon, fusing martial arts action, streetwise humour and the groundbreaking animatronics of Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The 1991 sequel The Secret of the Ooze is an irresistibly fun second slice: a deep-dive into the turtles' origins where new mutant foes Tokka and Rahzar are thrown in the mix... double the stakes, double the pizza! Rounding out the trilogy, 1993's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III sends the heroes in a half shell back to feudal Japan in a time-travel adventure full of samurai showdowns, ancient legends and comic chaos.

Restored in glorious 4K and packed with extras, this radical set celebrates the legacy of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael in one of the most iconic franchises of the era, blending innovative effects, comic-book heart and early '90s attitude.

This week on TMNT Tuesday, AIPT asked your questions with Dan Watters, writer of the upcoming Shredder miniseries, and Alex Paknadel, helming the Casey Jones series, to dig into what makes these complex antiheroes tick. From rage-as-armor character studies to action-packed martial arts mayhem, both writers are carving out bold new corners of the IDW TMNT universe.

What makes TMNT so timeless? How violent is Shredder going to be? Which Casey Jones is the best Casey Jones? You asked—Dan and Alex answered. Plus, check out the interior art that has never been seen outside of the recent TMNT panel!
