If it's true, it seems like a crazy idea. Whether you like office or not, it's a known brand and people have been using it for a long time. Throwing away that name recognition has to be a bad idea, especially as many people are increasingly resentful at having AI shit forced down their throats.

Where do you see that it isn't true? Clicking through to the MicroSlop site, it looks like it confirms this as true:

Is this just a wording fail and the app is changing, not the product line?

If so, still not even the most confusing rebrand in recent memory.

Imagine if someone took a well known brand like Tumblr and renamed it to something stupid like "Y"
