My UK family always used to ask what makes Canadians different from USAians, as they saw us all as America. And it was hard to describe.
But talking to US coworkers lately I found a common theme: While Canadians may not seem very patriotic, we do work towards a common goal of making a society better for all.
In the US every comment I hear from coworkers is "I Got Mine, so I ain't worried." And made me realize USA thinks patriotism is living as an individual in a grand country, but not actually caring about their country as a whole.
I think the US isn't really a country despite what they say, it's just a bunch of people living in the same area.
Thus the guns, cuz your on your own in the wild west
That's the definition of American conservatism. That's not a quip. Self reliance and fuck everyone else is the philosophy.
They're not self reliant though. Most of them work for someone lol
That and other blind spots in their logic
I don't know man, it doesn't feel that way up here as strongly anymore. I'm increasingly seeing more american-style conservatism
Well even that seems to show we have our own style, and can feel "American" style seeping in
that's because none of us have felt represented by our government since before Regan. Why should I care about my country if it is actively hostile towards me? My entirely life it has wanted to make things impossible for me to succeed. Actively destroyed any possibility of succeeding.
the only thing I learned in my life as an American is that I'll lie cheat and steal my way to a better tomorrow, because at the end of the day morals and ethics don't fill your belly and warm your bed at night. it doesn't protect my family. it doesn't create opportunities for my kids.
fuck this country, fuck this government, fuck every single politician and corpofascist that allowed this to happen.
I'm not a bad person, I just have to be bad because they won't let me live any other way.
In a democracy, it all boils down to who votes for what. Too bad that people are so susceptible to propaganda, which taps in to their fears and low moral values. It's okay to blame the politicians, but don't forget the voters who have given them permission.
Damn. As a USAian, this sish hits hard.
