That was when Reddit killed their API for apps and started charging money for it. It lead to the first lemmy exodus.

Around that time there was a lot of attempts to build community and some people felt it was useful to bootstrap lemmy with Reddit content.

It mostly resulted in a lot of dead end posts and crap, so I think it got dialled back a lot. It was a lot of noise that people hated/defederated from.
