In the same week Hanson refused to apologise for telling Sky News “how can you tell me there are good Muslims?”, 58% of respondents to the Essential poll said they either would vote for One Nation, or were open to voting for them, at the next election due by 2028.

Among all respondents, 25% said they would “definitely” back the rightwing populist party at the next election, with 33% saying they’re “open” to it. Only 28% said they would “never vote for One Nation”, with 14% unsure.

February’s Essential poll finds a substantial number of Labor voters are also open to One Nation.

Among respondents who said they voted for the Coalition, 17% said they would definitely vote One Nation next time, with a startling 51% saying they were open to doing so. Among Labor voters, 12% said they’d definitely vote One Nation, with 33% saying they’d be open to it.

People are that Pissed with major parties they are more than willing to vote for Pauline. Really shows how much the parties are failing to read the room.

The question doesn't take that into account so one would assume that in some seats there would be a viable independent that some voters (Greens, for example) would be even more open to than One Nation. An interesting point raised in the podcast was that perhaps some Greens voters see themselves as outsiders in the same way as One Nation voters do, and therefore view a party like One Nation as a more viable option than traditional centrist parties that haven't done shit for anyone other than those on the inside.

There is always a question mark over this stuff until we get close to an actual election, though. Many people are unhappy right now and might just be trying to send a message to the major parties via polls like this. A sort of "do something or else" type response.

SA Labor are very much a populist centrist party and pretty much the natural party of government in SA and I will be shocked if they don't win by a huge margin. Unless the Libs can bring Playford back from the dead to re-nationalise our electricity. Take my vote. Antic and the like have been pushing the Libs to the right and out of contention for years and are doing the same to the federal party.

Not sure about NSW but I get the impression Minns is a populist Labor Right centrist along the lines of Malinauskas. These guys are holding the center of the chess board. They don't really look threatened.

The only thing controversial about Albo is his ability to avoid controversy. He won by a landslide accompanied by almost the complete destruction of the LNP. What changed?

And if I was pissed off why would I vote for Hanson. She has been a joke for her entire political career. What changed apart from Gina's money? Something is suss about all these polls and the spin. I guess we will find out on election night.
