And hot take here... Even though i consider myself a socialist, i despise the hammer and sickle. I see it as no better than a swastika. If you need these symbols for your ideology then you should reflect inward a bit more.
The difference is op claims to be a socialist and is yet repulsed by a universal symbol of the proletariat. This is no different than a Hindu denouncing their religious symbol because of public perception.
