I think it's less that 30 is old and more that that is about the age your start to realize the age difference.

You can live most of your twenties and still feel somewhat connected to people plus or minus 5 years. However when you hit 30 you start to have more in common with people who are 40 than people who are 20.

That said I didn't really have this experience until I was in my late 30s and the little track suit crews with their broccoli cuts showed up. I'm just a late bloomer I guess.

I went to college in my mid-twenties and all my peers thought I was a geezer.

[–] trackball_fetish@lemmy.wtf 3 points 3 weeks ago

Damn, I don't feel closer to 20 or 40, I feel like I'm in the twilight zone

[–] AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

The warranty expires as soon as you hit 25.

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Anyone over 25 is a chopped and washed unc, on god.

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd much rather be considered washed than unwashed, so that's good

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Unfortunately, being washed is unintuitively quite bad.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm assuming that's a truncated version of "washed out" or "washed up"

[–] redwattlebird@thelemmy.club 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I've been told by my 20yo classmates that glazed = covered in cum = good and that washed = to be clean of cum = bad.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I sincerely hope they were just trolling you...

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

They likely were not

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago

You must be joking.

Dry clean only

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

25 fucked with me mentally, but late thirties is when you actually start breaking down.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I had some things start failing at 35, but recovered a bit and feel better now at 45.

But I quit my soul crushing desk job career and had a kid in those intervening years too.

So basically I traded financial security for healthy life and family time.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks for the hope homie.

My early 50s had me in the best shape of my life, running 6 miles or biking 25-50 miles nearly every day and being ripped and weighing less than I had since I was a teenager. I'm nearing 60 now and arthritis is creeping into all my joints, though. The breakdown happens eventually no matter how successfully you stave it off.

[–] redwattlebird@thelemmy.club 3 points 3 weeks ago

Agreed. It all goes downhill after 25.

[–] brave_lemmywinks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Around 25 you have to interact with all ages, and everyone starts to blend.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

As you get older and interact with younger people, the more you see them make the same mistakes you did. Because they're encountering the same problems with no experience or knowledge on how to handle them. Be a mentor to the younger folks.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Be a mentor to the younger folks.

They'll just tell you to mind your own business and "stop being judgemental."

There's certain caveats to be certain, but be available and willing to dispense information. Even if just one person listens to you, that's someone who might get things better for themselves.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You know that thought experiment where you have a time machine and can go back in time and tell younger you how to avoid all those mistakes you made...ya know, don't date that person, don't go to that party, don't drop out of that class, don't be afraid of that bully?

Yeah, younger you would 100% ignore older you's advice because you're old.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well yeah, because if you changed those mistakes then you'd never have the opportunity to make them and warn yourself about them

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Sure. That's causality that you're talking about.

I'm just talking about young people thinking they know more about life than us olds. Causality aside, younger you would ignore your insanely accurate advice, just because that's what they do. Everyone has to learn things the hard way.

[–] Palerider@feddit.uk 5 points 3 weeks ago

Fffff... I realized this a while ago, I'm 54.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

I have combat boots - one owner - older than that.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

30 plus is when you start noticing the mental gap with the younger kids in certain areas
