There are layers to this, Arch people feel superior to Mint or Ubuntu users. But! FreeBSD feels superior to all Linux. OpenBSD superior to all other BSDs, Plan9 superior to all other OSs. Meanwhile, Linus Torvalds uses Fedora and Ken Thompson uses Debian. Iirc Rob Pike uses MacOS.

The problem is not the difficulties of any of these… if you are reasonably skilled you’ll master any of them… given enough time.
When I was a student I maintained a Slackware up/running/updated for my gf at the time… was it hard? No but it was a gigantic waste of time… and what I learned is not comparable to the amount of wasted time.
Same with OpenBSD.. I love that operating system for networking (the most elegant firewall/netfilter I ever seen) but (1) didn’t have support for multi cpu for a looong time (2) drivers either worked out of box magically or good luck
All people you mentioned have better things to do than babysit an operating system and Debian (fedora I don’t use for decade, can’t say) is a pretty reasonable compromise of not treating you like a kid and not making you waste time
While I can use any of the mentioned stuff (apart from MacOS, I suppose), there is one type of person that scares me. A wild LFS daily driver.
I knew one once, LFS daily driver I mean, a very special person. She had nerve damage in her leg after having destroyed her phone in the most violent way in anger, and regularly invited friends to cam shows to watch her have sex. She was also a very skilled (computer) pentester.
She must be something from some fiction or some OC character 😭
Sounds just like the usual crazy to me. Better stay away. It's not worth it if you aren't also crazy yourself.
