Even back when my PC still had a disc drive, even compatibility mode wouldn't let it function
Windows killed a lot of disc drives around win10. I was convinced my laptop one just died.
Oh but look, running EndeavourOS and what's this? Works just fine.
CDs and movies no problem. Games probably too, with a little Wine/Bottles magic!
Mine always seemed to work fine, still does actually! Although I don't tend to use it much.
The last thing I used it for was the soundtrack for Die Hard I got for a £1 at a boot sale on a complete whim... only to later realize it was actually the soundtrack for the sequel hahahaha
