Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
  8. All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

I just don't believe that honestly. It's more likely it'll be one of his family or cronies. This country puts up with a lot of shit but I don't think he could get away with running for a third term. Even these Bible thumping constitution "loving" Republicans would surely understand why that can't happen.

Then again, you might be right.

Democracy isn't actually in the constitution so it can technically be removed, or so I heard.

The only things that’re gonna stop him from running again are either he finally succumbs to all the health shit that he observably is experiencing or he cancels the elections. Until someone stops him that’s where things are going

What do you think we'd actually do if he said tomorrow that he was running for another term? We'd organize a bunch of protests, the media would have a field day, it'll get voted down and... what? They clearly aren't willing to arrest him no matter what he does, so what exactly would we do to stop him if he just decided to do it anyway?

I honestly think the best we could do would be to not print his name on the ballot, which would indeed be a big blow to his chances, but the extent to which I've seen our country fail to give even the slightest of repercussions to Trump's shenanigans has killed any hope I had that we'll ever really put up a fight against anything. We're a bunch of little dogs yapping at an intruder we'll never bite, and Trump has long since realized that if he just ignores us, he's free to do whatever.

If he were younger, he'd definitely declare he could run again, or be god-emperor for life. But he's now the oldest president and clearly has frontotemporal dementia. I don't think he'll last another term.
