Ron Widen is cool, he was in favor of title 2 net neutrality, he's against NSA spying and from what I understand he realizes that age verification is a cybersecurity risk to everyone

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago

He also supports israel and as soon as last summer voted to send another shipment of assault rifles to Israeal that they have been handing out to settlers in the west bank.

Wyden is not that good.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Ron Wyden co-authored Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act in 1996, which protects internet platforms from being held liable for user-generated content. It's a big reason that the internet exploded in popularity. We may need to revisit and increase regulation since seeing what social media became, but he's had a pretty great track record.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 13 points 18 hours ago

Section 230 is an absolutely vital regulation that allows the internet to be free, getting rid of it would be horrible

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (5 children)

And... what about that other guy?

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 66 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The other guy is unfortunately ted cruz

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I'm not familiar. Is he the guy who fucked off to Cancun while Texas went without power during a huge winter storm?

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Ted "when things go bad in my state I go on a" Cruz

[–] rainwall@piefed.social 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Dont worry, he came back the day after his sloth and cowardess became an international news story and handed out bottled water from a pickup truck, instead of coordinating with the state/fed/volunteer orgs to actually help people.

Those dozens of bottle of water surely fixed everything.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Nah he's the senator who could be murdered at work and the senate wouldn't convict the killer

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

That could be a lot of them. Doesn't really narrow it down.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, but at least he's really human!

[–] nyan@lemmy.cafe 3 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Are we sure? Has anyone actually checked to make sure he isn't a lizardman from inside the hollow Earth, all dressed up in a rubber human suit? I mean, sure, he isn't an LLM, but there are so many other possibilities!

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Well he ran for human president

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 6 points 21 hours ago

No, because he's the Zodiac Killer.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Like most Shakespeare villains, Ted Cruz has a single redeeming quality. And it's that he both understands and vehemently supports free speech.

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Then why does he support the most pro censorship regime in US history? He doesn't support free speech. He supports fascist speech. He's an American traitor, along with the rest of that regime.

[–] JTskulk@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Because he's also a cuckold with a humiliation fetish. Trump called his wife ugly and then Cruz sucked his dick.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 9 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

If he's working with Ron Widen it means Ted Cruz has the correct position on free speech.

Do you have any idea how many people on the internet make fun of Ted Cruz? Have you ever heard him say those people should be banned or censored?

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Raphael Cruz has a very obvious shame and humiliation kink, why would he complain? He gets to use the public to get his rocks.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

I guess a broken clock and all that.

Iirc he was also against the bullshit PMTA process the FDA shoved on the vaping industry (the process is responsible for the popularity of disposables).

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

it's better to find common ground with your peers and then to work with them to make life better for everyone.

If Ted Cruz is in favor of free speech, so you can work with him on free speech issues to help everyone of all colors and creeds

And he really is in favor of free speech. He's never tried to shut down any of his critics. People send him all kinds of nasty things on twitter and he doesn't even block any of them.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Why would he block it, he gets off on it. He's got this same little grin every time he's confronted about an awful thing he did.

[–] Akh@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

He protects pedophiles

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 7 points 1 day ago

You mean the senator in the state that puts destructive as shit data centres wherever and is helping palantir? Yeah he’s super anti censorship.
