That's what Disney lawyers argued. I don't think it actually worked out for them, but I may be wrong.

Yeah it didn't work, everyone saw through the bullshit. They tried to settle through arbitration and keep it out of court. But that's because Disney lawyers are scum and will do anything to find a loophole to exploit. Also think they were more concerned about the publicity and why they wanted it settled silently.

The ultimate settlement at court was assumed to be pathetic though for killing someone. Think final amount wasn't publicized, but the publicized settlement record claimed the husband was seeking 50k. But I guess it can settle for higher and that was just a formality amount?

Anyhow they probably threw chump change at him and a lifetime membership of Disney+ and discounts at the parks. Certainly bundled with a NDA agreement to not disclose the settlement agreement or they'd claw it back.
