Most people just accept anything as "the way it is". They can't reason why things are the way they are beyond a certain point, and that's well before they reach the point where they realize they are being taken advantage of.
It has to be a thing that has a very direct cause and effect for them to not accept it. Like COVID lockdowns for example.
