Framework proved repairable laptops can work, but almost nobody is willing to buy one
(www.xda-developers.com)
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
I really want to buy a Framework, but it doesn't make sense to me if every year they announce a new model that is improved. Every year I think about buying one a new one gets announced :/ Maybe I don't understand it but what is the point of that?
That sounds like every piece of tech in existence. Every laptop manufacturer does the same. The difference with Framework is that you can upgrade parts of your existing model with some of the new hardware if you want. You don’t have to have the latest and greatest but if you like a certain aspect of it, you can upgrade that.
They only have three models of laptop. The Framework 12, 13, and 16
Within each model they might upgrade the specs, or change some things around, but there is no break in compatibility from generation to generation. If you buy a Framework today, (assuming they don't go bust) you will be able to buy the upgraded parts a few years down the line and slot them into your existing laptop.
You can just swap out the main board and CPU, if you want a newer one. There are different models incompatible with each other, but you just gotta choose a shape and then the internals are largely the same.
On top of that, you don't have to stay bleeding-edge. Computers have mostly reached a steady-state these days. A decade old computer now is still a fairly usable machine. It won't be fast, but it also won't be a slug.
