If you try and "copy permalink" it gives you the same link as above, which redirects to the fedia.io login page.
Anyway, I can't solve the technical issue, but I can confirm that they did indeed "specifically request it".
Yeah it’s odd how that instance structures their links. I’d tried to run it through lemmyverse.link, but they don’t support Fedia.io yet.
Depending on your client you can set how to share links. Mlem for example give the option of share by your instance, the original instance, or through lemmyverse.link (a site that lets you pick your preferred and redirects).
