The link has a ton of information.

Now, It is obvious that putting it completely offline is more safe. But, some people often use the TV's to watch Netflix or something like that. Then they might forget that it is still connected to the internet when they are done watching.

Under Privacy Settings, there are options for Device Usage Data, Collect App and Over-the-Air Usage, and Interest-Based Ads. All are enabled by default, but you can disable them.

If you need to watch content on it get an appropriate device. If you want to watch BluRays buy a BluRay player. If you want to do streaming buy a streaming device at a price point and privacy level to your liking.

This is what we're currently doing. I unplugged tv from internet, and only use Roku stick or plex.

As to librelec and “sucking”. If you’re trying to do yo-ho stuff with free streaming sites and services it isn’t going to be great.

Yea I assumed the free services like Pluto, Tubi, even PBS stuff would work great. Not really...

Frankly if you want some quality and good experience either pay for a commercial streaming service (or a good IPTV one*)

It sounds cool but it also sounds like those would be totally jank. I did something like this years ago for watching hockey games, and is was ok..., but like you said it just disappeared one day.
