I've been working my way through it via YouTube Shorts. It honestly doesn't feel as epic as everyone says, to me.
I think I've watched the entire thing once, but it was a struggle to get through it. So boring.
I think these movies are hyped by the media and people are just following what's popular. But yeah, I have seen many who say this movie is the best they have ever seen. I'm actually shocked by that, but sure. They also liked Oppenheimer which I still haven't been able to get through.
And they also liked Gravity, which was absolutely ridiculous. George Clooney was a clown in that one.
Different strokes for different folks. I actually liked Oppenheimer and have watched it once or twice at home after seeing the Barbenheimer double feature in the cinema. At the same time, I could see how you might find it boring. I just really like slow burn movies and shows
It doesn't stand up to other Nolan films and the casting is shit, my opinion is to watch Project Hail Mary if you haven't and rewatch if you did saw it
I'm in a similar boat in I don't think it was Nolan's best work (at least, not my favorite of his works), but I don't see where you're coming from about the casting. Care to elaborate?
The extreme ends of the casting are "too many black people" and "too many white people" so I guess it boils down to not enough Greek people
I know you're not making those arguments, you're just relaying what you've seen elsewhere, but I sure do hate to see them being made because they're always in bad faith. On the one hand, they claim to want 'historical accuracy' as if the movie was trying to be a documentary or something, while simultaneously ignoring the historical fact that different peoples have been moving around and intermingling with other peoples since the dawn of civilization. They want to have their (racist) cake and eat it too all under the disguise of "just trying to be accurate". Also, let's be real here, as much as celebrity culture can be (and is) a problem in some cases, they are all professional actors, this is their job and most of them are pretty good at it. And if Nolan was forced to cast only native Greek people, not only would that create its own discrimination, but far fewer people would see the movie because there simply aren't as many familiar faces. Sorry for the rant, I know you personally weren't making any of those points, I just needed to vent
