https://ergodriven.com/products/the-vertical-handshake-mouse

No joke, I am genuienly shilling this thing unprompted, I absolutely love it.

$30.

Toggleable DPI.

Multiple custom bindable buttons that are done entirely on the mouse itself, no required software for your pc, so its compatible with anything.

2.4 ghz, or BT, or wired, whatever you want.

The literal only downside to this thing is... it could have a fancier pantsier polling rate, if you also wanted to use it for competetive gaming.

But honestly you'd have to be in like the top 10-20% of fps competitive gamers for that to make any difference.

This thing is fucking magic, and a steal at $30, I can only imagine it isn't more popular because there's no marketing budget behind it.

EDIT:

I guess I should also note that if you have large hands, this may not work for you so well. Small to Medium? Works great!

But if you have big hands, yeah it may be too small, and unfortunately I think they only offer the one size.

From index tip to thumb pad, my hand is about 7" or ~18cm, ... if your hand is maybe larger than 8" or ~21cm, your bear mitts might be a bit much for this mouse, but if your hand is smaller than that, please join the cult lol, your wrist will thank you.

Of course it's designed for right handed people

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Apologies, genuienly, even though I'm just a fanboy for this thing.

Like I've ... I've literally begged this company to diversify and expand from this mouse model.

I suggested they do like a more expensive 'gamer' version that has a higher polling rate, a left handed version, maybe figure out how to do swappable body kit parts to dial in the kind of grip you want.

I genuienly do not understand how they can make and sell this thing at $30. Nothing comparable exists in that price range, that I am aware of.

They're sitting on an incredible design they could potentially expand on.

It's just such a shame that so many "ergonomic" things are designed for right handed people, rather than being hand agnostic.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Unfortunately, you'd have to actually make a left and right hand version... 'hand agnostic' wouldn't work with this kind of design.

Imagine a non reversible hand agnostic glove.

Hope your thumb and pinky are identical, on each hand, just swapped.

Mirroring the entire hand isn't the same as a hand being symmetrical.

... you could perhaps try to model a mouse around a pistol grip or flight stick... not sure if that would be doable to work out to the correct wrist angles though?

Hrm.

Actually, a standard dildo with balls/flared base design might actually work as a kind of basic shape to start from...

... the balls would be the place the pinky side of your hand rests on... then you'd need symmetrical flaring/indentation where either thumb could go... make the left and right click and scroll wheel be along the ... would it be dorsal? side of the shaft, have a button or switch elsewhere that can flip button assignment and wheel orientation between left and right handed use. Scroll wheel is horizontal due to grip angle / both handedness.

Then I guess add more bonus buttons the thumb could use.

You'd also have to weight the bottom of this thing to prevent it from toppling, the whole thing would have to be fairly heavy.

And you'd have basically double the amount of buttons as per a particular handed variant...

... design is all about compromises, lol.

[–] deo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

can it horizontal scroll with the scrollwheel?

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ah, no, vertical only.

Ok, actually, I just futzed around with the thing...

You can, apparently, bind a button to 'Horizontal Scroll', and what that does is make it so when that button is pressed, the mouse wheel now scrolls horizontally.

... I didn't even know it could do that lol.

Not sure if that meets your requirements.

[–] deo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

that absolutely does. thanks for checking!

[–] Jyrdano@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It takes some time to get used to, but once it clicks its hard to go back to standard mouse.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Once it clicks, eh?

You can literally bind a button to double click with this one, so theoretically the process should take half as long =P

My wife has the Logitech one and she loves it. I use a track ball myself.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is there a trackball version?

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Not that I am immediately aware of no, not from this company.

Personally I'm not a trackball guy, not to knock it as a concept, I've tried and used a few... I just don't know much about em.
