This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.
2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil
No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.
We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.
3. No excessive self-promotion
Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.
This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.
4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts
This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.
We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.
5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW
Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.
No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.
6. No linking to piracy
Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.
We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

In this sense, Chet is right, the 'democracy' of consumers has prevailed, and the people have spoken. They said 'digital.' I myself have been a PC gamer for over a decade now and I can't remember the last time I bought physical media.
But then Chet shows his entire rancid asshole by actively ignoring the power dynamics between corporation and customer. The corporation always has the upper hand because the customer CAN ONLY buy what the corporation is OFFERING to sell. The corporation is always, at all times, presenting the customer with a false choice. A customer who has shitty internet and has to purchase all physical media, they may be in the democratic minority but that doesn't mean we feed them to the wolves. But an ex-Valve writer wouldn't know shit about that, they haven't shipped a physical game since Portal 2. What choice did you give consumers for Counterstrike, 2023? Half Life Alyx, 2020? Dota, 2013?

Absolutely not correct, because the opposite is also true. The corporation can only sell what the consumer is offering to buy.
Turns out the consumers will buy literal shit if it’s branded with a rockstar logo.
But there are way more customers than there are corporations. What you're saying it true only if the corporation is selling something no customers wants to buy. The existence of gaming whales more or less proves that is not the case. 90% of the customers can choose not to buy but as long as that last 10% covers the rest of 90% it doesn't matter that the majority of the customers refuse to buy what is being sold.
Consumerism being a democratic process is probably the most effective propaganda capitalists have fabricated.
On the other hand, the corpos don't have the upper hand, they have to make a product we're willing to buy. We always have the right not to buy it and should use it more often. If any brand makes a bad product or sells it with too high price, we should fully use our right not to buy it. Not accept it, begrudgingly, and buy it.
I have done it multiple times over and no corpo hit squad has shown up to force me to buy anything. Even much more easier for digital goods as we can always sail the high seas.
While yeah it hasn't have had any effect on the overall market, at least i have a clear conscious and refuse to become a victim of corporations.
More people should use this right, we are not helpless victims of corporations.
