One of the few things inspiring hope in me is seeing how quickly nature can recover if given even a little bit of breathing room.
i did a lot of course work in biology, ecology, etc and was always blown away at how resilient natural systems were. generally speaking, complex systems could fully recover and reward us with all the ecosystem aervices if we just stopped actively trying to destroy them to the fullest extent possible.
and rarely did it require a full stop. like, if we just let off the gas a bit, it could all recover.
of course, anything but full speed is a barrier to the cultural logic of capitalism, so we gotta smother the biosphere.
It’s definitely reassuring that life is trying really hard to resist annihilation and if we give it some breathing room every outcome improves.
