The construction of the pyramids is (apparently) the oldest recorded occurrence of calibration where people had to get their cubit measuring sticks/rules verified on a regular basis. I forget but I think the cubit was defined of the length of the pharaoh's forearm (like elbow to ~~base of thumb~~ tip of middle finger)
