My poor wife has to deal with my adhd all the time, which includes cooking. I can't stand cooking, and have always looked for ways to avoid it. I've seen lots of people on here express the same sentiment, and I'm curious if anybody has any advice? What works for you to trick your brain into cooking?

Find something you can cook that other people rave over. The reward is the dopamine hit you get. Do you have kids? Make buttered noodles with cut up chicken breast. Very very low effort and kids love it.

Just the wife? Make meatballs one night. Pretty easy to do, super tasty, bit heavy on the cleanup tho. Make enough to make it worth it. They're a great snack to munch on throughout the day. I call them one of my ADHD snacks. Then the next night boil some spaghetti, make some sauce, easy peasy and just buy some frozen garlic bread. Boom "fancy" dinner in 2 steps with left over ADHD snacks.

Ever try smoking things? It takes some trial and error, but easily can turn into a hyperfocus. It's a bunch of low-effort steps spread throughout 2-8 hours. And makes some insanely tasty food.

I cook a lot, been cooking since I was 12. You know, yeah, the dopamine of having someone compliment your food is, like nothing else. I chase that high.

I was 22, living with a boyfriend and his two friends. I dont even remember what I made, but it's over 15 years later and I can still remember one of my roommates going "mrs mink" (thats what they called me) this is so good, holy fuck why is it so good" and like, raving about it. I can still remember beaming. Or the time I went on a group camping trip at 23 and attempted to make chili to feed 50 people. And I did. The giant pot I made was gone in ten mins flat. The compliments poured in.

ahh. yeah, fucking dopamine. Im not good at being social, at all, but I'll cook for ya fat and youll be happy. I fear most folks dont get me when I just talk, but if you cook for them? everyone loves you.
