When I was a kid, restaurants still smelled like tobacco.

Didn't really stop until early 2000's

I remember this on older busses and coaches as a child, and the ashtrays on the back of seats. Mustve been wack in the 1990s with how much indoor smoking was still accepted.

I don't know what it peaked, but by the 90s presence of smoking was trending downwards

There were still smoking sections in restaurants for a bit.

It took government regulations in the US to slow and stop this practice
