edit: not checking the replies for my sanity but i see the downvotes and like. you know content doesn't just magically appear. right. like real actual human beings have to make an account and upload content for there to be human content. that's how social media works. making a platform does not automatically mean it comes with content. shocking, i know.
just from skimming i saw maybe two usernames. would be cool if they didn't post slop but if they did reposts y'all would probably complain about that too (although i saw what could've been reposts maybe) and if they posted original content that wasn't interesting enough you'd probably also complain
if you know how to code then idk. contribute to something like peertube or make your own thing.
or you could just keep funding the slop corporation spying on you and sending your money to child-bombing pedos and your watch history to palantir. it's fine we all have our preferences. i just assumed people on the fediverse might have values more aligned with not that.

You are severely missing what YouTube is for. The vast majority of people, probably significantly more than 99%, just go there to watch stuff. Very few ever make videos.
So yes, for almost everyone, content just magically appears there. Because of how many people use the site, that still means a very large (absolute) number of people make very diverse content. YouTube is excellent in figuring out what I want to see. Think of it like TV with the ability to comment, and having more variety and being on-demand and custom-tailored to my personal taste and interest. If there's nothing I like on tv, I turn off the tv. I don't start a broadcasting company.
In other words: me making content I want to watch doesn't solve me wanting to watch something, and if I made it I already know it and it isn't for me.
What makes YouTube worth visiting isn't the site itself or how it was coded. But for the people that are on it. That makes it so hard if not impossible for alternatives to ever appear and be viable. You need the people for the site to be good, but people don't come unless the site is good. The is no likely solution to this, not now, not soon, maybe not ever.
Why is it us that has to put effort to outpace the AI slop, considering that AI slopper put literally no effort into the thing they churn out? For every video being uploaded there will be literally hundreds of AI slop being put out. If the platform welcome AI slop then it's no better than slop corporations that you're so up against.

The gist of it is that platforms owned by for profit entities are inherently hostile, and that any competitor to YouTube, in the extremely unlikely case they find success, is bound to develop the same problems, since they are systemic.
Our only chance for a non-hostile video platform is peer tube with federated hosting.
