The dprk doesn't exist in a vacuum, many of these policies are in place due the constant state of exception the DPRK is in due to US economic sanctions and US military bases in south korea, which they perform invasion drills every single year. I very much prefer how they live than how countries live after they're bombed the US, e.g. Libya. And i cannot imagine a well read south korean being content with their position as a vassal, like it or not, north koreans have much more actual freedom
