Pretty funny expecting everyone else to behave in a different way or speak some other lantuage to deflect your America centrism. Could just learn that other countries exist too, nah too hard

Do better, friend

so do you.

stop with your chauvinism if you expect people not to take you for a usian pig. shit, that kind of thing might even make you an honorary usian.

It's not often you meet someone who feels so entitled to making false assumptions about people. And who digs in even when it's pointed out that they're wrong.

its not often you meet someone who feels so entitled to wanting others to behave like they want to, but simply won't accept criticism back.

Not going around assuming stuff about people is sorta just basic good manners. It's 2025 my friend. You put youself in some pretty interesting company by demanding to be allowed to assume stuff about people. Smdh.

If someone is going to incorrectly assume I'm an American I'd prefer the term Yank. It sounds better. But iiwii

"usian" is usually more fitting

calling themselves american and not being able to call myself american is what strains me. i tought you were against us-centrism...

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I'm against that in general and against US defaultism more specifically, which is assuming everyone is American. I just think the particular term is strained. Yank is much better for example

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

usian is fine. it even sounds similar to what we call them in my country.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I just think it's a bit strained, it sounds clunky

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

not to me. maybe to english speakers? i don't mind either way. 😉

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm not a native English speaker, if that's what you mean

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

so why are you bothered with it if you are not a native speaker, nor usian?

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wouldn't you be bothered if I incorrectly assumer you were a Yank?

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

wait a second. so you are bothered by being called usian for having usian opinions, but every single other form of us-centrism is ok?

it's like its what you want to be, just not called out on it.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wouldn't someone making that assumption bother you?

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

sure but like. it's empty when all you care about is not being called usian.

I haven't had anything happen to me in this thread though. Or wdym
