My theory is that he couldn't deal with the thought of living without his children. For him this was just suicide because he knew they were going to take his kids away.

Ya but even if he didn't have any custody, he could still talk to them sometimes, I think? Even if he lost custody for a while he could always argue for 50% later. That's better than suicide-by-cop.

That would be a rational way to look at it. It's obvious he was not a very rational person.

Psychopaths think rationally and logically but often in extremely narrow terms which eventually trap them.
