The headline’s kinda misleading if you read the articles. He said the attacker should be bailed out so he could be questioned. He also said the attack was “awful” and “not right”.
No, not to "be questioned," but to "ask him some questions." I think there's a subtle distinction with the former heavily implying guilt, and the latter implying interest or intrigue.
He wanted to pick his brain, not interrogate him.
