Bolivarian revolution is a socialist project.

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

You may say socialist, but not exactly Marxist socialist. It's more like nationalism with some socialist elements, or maybe a Saint Simonian socialism.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 32 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Right, and hence why the whole project might now be destroyed. You really have to establish the dictatorship of the proletariat in order to guard a socialist project from aggression.

[–] BassedWarrior@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't get this. Why is that the reason that the proeect may be destroyed?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Because they failed to control capitalist forces that the US will leverage to overthrow socialism. Go read up on Chile and how Allende was overthrown and Pinochet installed after. This is basically the same scenario.

I do think the Venezuelan "Bolivarian socialists" failed to establish control over capitalists (or capitalist property) and they are paying the price. I do have many disagreements with their line. However I don't think it's fair to equate the situation of Maduro with Allende's. Maduro is in a much stronger position and deposing PSUV from power won't be as easy as deposing Allende.

yeah I agree with that

Nah, the Allende case won't happen because Venezuela had a lot of military purges throughout the years to the point that the WSJ lamented that Venezuela is Coup-Proof -> https://archive.ph/IfL1n

The only military left are strongly ideological aligned with the leadership and anti imperialist to the point that the show it proudly:

This time it will be different. If the US invades, it will be the death of their empire.

I really hope you're right and Venezuela can withstand the onslaught. I'm worried that the US is basically planning to do what they did in Iraq and raze a chunk of the country to the ground.

I really hope Iran's drones make an impact in case of a US invasion or bombardment.

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago

Exactly. It was very important that Chavez was a military officer. They did very important things to strengthen their power, one of them was purging reactionary elements from the armed forces. The other was creating a militia from popular elements, which can be quickly drafted and can support the government in case of need.

Maduro has said in an interview that calls himself 'A Marxist, a Bolivarian, and a Christian'

Yes and he is a big fan of Mao Zedong -> https://tankie.tube/w/fonnJfB59RUudxo6C5ZZBa

Directly from his Telegram channel:

From a very young age, in my school library, I discovered and was amazed by Chinese culture. Over the years, I became a scholar of the great Mao Zedong and his philosophical, military, and dialectical writings. As an adult, I witnessed the miracle that this ancient culture was building: the most important power of the 21st century, a power for peace, cooperation, and shared development.

Thank you! It seems I read somewhere he had distanced himself from socialism, which disappointed me, but it's possible it was someone else or Western aligned MSM. I did read here that he's gracious to Mao, which seemed odd if he had distanced himself.

I'm glad he's socialist. My heart is a little brighter, now.

Well, not sure if that the distancing is true but I have several videos where he actively studies theory from the Communist Youth that participate in the exchange programs with China. He is very active in learning.

Adding to that, the video from Tankie Tube that I shared is from a month ago.

That's so great, I really wish I can find a way to a socialist state. Even CPUSA has shuttered their offices, my friend thinks probably from lack of donations, which isn't surprising considering anyone in the area is terrified of socialism, even if they actually agree with socialist ideas like nationalizing banks and utilities, taxing the wealthy proportionately, and using the money for healthcare, housing, food, water, and transit. A few very poor are amenable but the $20 fee up until now bought a week's worth of cheap protein, rice, and milk for a person, maybe two, but after my last shopping trip, that's probably half that. Jobs are gone too.
