It should be illegal to fire employees if you're a publicly traded company and your stock is going up. Why would you?
These days firing employees when turning a profit is what makes the stock go up.
Anything and everything to make the line go up
This is why unions matter. Aside from negotiating employment agreements, they can lobby government. Enough unions across enough industries will make change.
The employees knew what they were signing up for.
If they didn't want this to happen, they could've worked for a different company.
You might not be old enough to remember, but there was a time when working at Google was a dream job.
We do not blame workers for their systemic exploitation on Lemmy, particularly those who have organized or are fighting for organization.
