People really just don't give a shit about animals do they?
If they did, they wouldn't let a cat live outside in a city
Yeah all those feral cats should home themselves.
Plenty of people could have taken it in, it was obviously loved.
Outdoor cats are a plague on wildlife
Someone could have taken it in, but they didn't. The cat doesn't deserve to be killed for not having a home or for getting out accidentally. There's like 80 some odd million stray cats in the US, and in attempts to curb those numbers we catch and release them after being altered because many of them are truly feral.
Homed cats should be inside only, yes.
I agree that it didn't deserve to die but it died because it lived outdoors. If you care about a stray, take it in.

How about the birds, mice, etc .. that a free roaming cat will kill.

No I hate humans especially those that try to make a cake out of eggs and milk.
