I am a bit envious of people who perceive the gym as a hobby. For me it is more like brushing teeth: Not fun in any way, but I do it anyway because I don't want to deal with the consequences of not doing it.

Have you tried other sports? After going through 10+ different sports, I finally landed on something I like. This makes it way easier to get your exercise in

[–] NotAnonymousAtAll@feddit.org 1 points 16 hours ago

I have tried some and I do like bouldering. Unfortunately that does not cover all relevant muscle groups.

Fellow "want my body to keep working" gym-goer.

It's the worst.

And the worst part of it is the people for whom the gym IS a hobby.

[–] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why's that the worst part?

Just genuinely curious as i do fall under the group for who gym and training in general is an actually enjoyable hobby. Of course i do understand that not everyone gets the same enjoyment out if it as we're all wired slightly differently, but why's that bad.

[–] redhorsejacket@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

It's not, you keep doing you and enjoy yourself. This is like a non-morning person complaining about someone who is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed from the moment they wake up onwards. The morning person didn't do anything wrong, and they don't owe their more groggy counterpart anything. Still, that probably won't stop the sleepyhead from grousing about it if they have to interact while their energies are mismatched.

Fair, that does make sense. Thank you for elaborating.

PC gaming, PC building though thats rare due the insane prices, mini painting once in blue moon, but overall after work, chores, family, training, sleep, there isn't much time left over for additional hobbies.

Though, honest question. How many hobbies is a person supposed to have as we all have a rather limited amount of time left over after activities supporting basic survival and comforts?

They’re sweating because they’re at the gym.

But really, the gym’s a fine hobby. No hate for our respectable body maintenance aficionados

I mostly consume stuff. Food, movies, video games, music.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My other hobbies besides the gym are tanning and laundry.

[–] skeptomatic@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My wife had to explain this to me.

[–] clucose@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Can you explain it to me? I didn‘t get it.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 18 hours ago

It’s from the MTV show Jersey Shore.

I'll ask my wife...
She says your an idiot. I"m not saying that.. She is, but might be periomenopause .

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Calling someone an idiot while failing to spell "you're" correctly is ironic

[–] skeptomatic@lemmy.ca 2 points 16 hours ago

My wife said it.

[–] clucose@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think then it would be ok to block you both. 👋

If you like the gym you should get into cooking. Nothing tastes so good as a post workout meal you made yourself

“I have a sportsball team I support, and I like watching TV”

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

Take a break from the gym and go to the dojo instead.

[–] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I don’t suppose maladaptive daydreaming counts as a hobby

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Meal prep. Because of gym.

[–] ashenone@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Audiobooks are great to listen to. During cardio at the gym.
