You should be able to have everything but friends turned off

I always forget that Snapchat has a public side to it. My wife and I just use it as a messaging app for videos/pictures.

Sorry, why would you use this app if you only use the messaging part? Not sure why you call it p2p, the media you transmit is likely sent to Snapchat servers before it arrives at the other person.

Because my wife likes it, and she's pretty important to me.

You're right though, it's certainly not a private p2p network.

The best summary of “the real world” vs principles.

I feel for the first reason! I was able to switch with my wife from Whatsapp to Signal but thats about as much as is possible. And we both have to still use Whatsapp because of others.

No need to worry! Soon they'll bring mandatory age/identity verifcation, and the kids won't see such content randomly... they'll be specifically targeted with it xD

People need to actually be parents and use parental controls.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 7 points 1 day ago

Well that and society as a whole needs to find ways to give parents time and said tools to actually do that. But you certainly are not wrong.

Precisely. Take care of your kid, don't offload your job to corporations, cause then it will become their kid, not yours.

Kids are often on their phones making this duh face.

What my kid sees is mostly casual racism.

Well that was harrowing 😬

Truly a horrifying read. As a parent of a tween, I don't think I could be more worried. This is going to suck.

Snapchat is harrowing. It's insane that it's somehow making a comeback.
