Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1817 readers
468 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

roofuskit@lemmy.world refusing to properly moderate bigotry and banning people for speaking up about it. this is unfair because why should bigots get let off easy while people trying to advocate for positive change get shit on? it's totally backwards

Hi, I just found some context you deliberately left out, since it was directly above the modlog comment you included, less than a minute later. Yikes.

After seeing the further context of you accusing his parents of domestic violence, I'm gonna have to say YDI.

This com isn't really for people who say fucked up shit, then come here and cry/laugh about being banned.

If you engage in trolling behaviour, guess what? You're being a troll.

Being assholes to people isn't how you make friends.

The mod is not incorrect. Some people simply don't think or know about trans people. It's not right, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're malicious, so affording them some degree of grace is probably the best route to take.

Also your last comment in the screenshot is ridiculous because, like. What does yuri have to do with anything? Anything can happen in animanga, it shouldn't impact whether queer people are valid.

here's the fuller context of that conversation, yuri was discussed further up the comment chain

The mod was clear that a first time ‘issue with phrasing’ is not a reason to either report or attack the user.

You doubled down and got a temp ban for violating sub rules.

YDI

They made a fair request to encourage allyship in the community and you attacked them personally over it. I flinched at that comment and I wasn’t even your target. YDI this time but you can do better! ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

I agree with the mod. Someone who trips up and corrects themselves isn't a bigot, they just made a mistake and tried to fix it.

"allies" when you try to have a conversation about the transphobic things they say
