He retired an account name. People like him dont just leave, they have to be tossed out on their ass.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 103 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Predictable and self inflicted. You don't bring Reddit style tactics to a group that largely fled them and not face blowback.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's just shocking that they'd create a front end that filters out a bunch of stuff without telling the user. To me, that's not the job of a front end client program. If they want to add additional filtering over the backend, it needs to be directed by the user or at least specifically approved by the user.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If he was as proud and confident in his choices as he claims to be he would have advertised it as a feature to get more users.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 8 points 1 day ago

Good point.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes if this had been opt-in. Something that the user had to explicitly enable it. And was thoroughly explained. The worst anyone would have to say about them is that they were overly opinionated. But no one would care beyond that. The reason it's a big thing. It is the way it was hidden and enabled by default. It 100% is a mess of their own making.

[–] femtek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I use blocklists on bluesky but I have to enable them. That way if I can't see someone's post I know it's not a bug and I can change it myself.

They wanted to be a self appointed moral guardian for all of Lemmy but are themselves immortal because they intentionally hid that they were censoring anyone.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Funnily enough it does also work. This will likely be what most people remember them for lol. And it was all their own doing

Bunch of instance admins running around cutting each other's heads off until there's only one left.

They obviously have mental problems and it would be sad if there wasn't the DDOS, which is just infuriating.

I give them one point though:

harassing messages, death threats, and threats of doxxing

We all know the internet can be a harsh place, but this is never okay, no matter against whom. They can fuck of, we can make fun of them, but harassing someone personally and threatening them is just wrong.

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 45 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But, given all the other behaviours, what's to say the "harassing messages, death threats, and threats of doxxing" even happened? Could just as easily be crocodile tears.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Yup. Obviously that person is insanely thin skinned and tried to deceive people before which has lead to all this drama in the first place. Shitty behavior if it happened but can we be sure it actually did?

Because the backlash from the community sure might look like senseless bullying to the receiver if you lack any self awareness and refuse to take responsibility for your actions.

For all we know they might just blow this out of proportion. They‘re known to overreact after all.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I call BS. They never showed any death threats or doxxing, but they did show they were incapable of mature behavior.

Dont spare sympathy for a crybaby liar.

[–] lokalhorst@feddit.org 20 points 1 day ago

Nah, we all know the internet and this is absolutely plausible and even likely. This is not about sympathy, but about a statement against hate. Even if OP is lying, I stand with what I said.

[–] wholookshere@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but given the rest of the message, I have trouble taking it on good faith.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

That was my take. Yes, it could well have happened, but can we really trust what someone like that says?

This is censorship manifest!

I think most people would have been fine with like a ublock style collection blocklists they could enable or disable and subscribe to, the problem was hiding it and doing it unilaterally.

Putting in a DDOS tool is just another signal this person isn’t mature enough to be trusted with your computer.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 9 hours ago

This is censorship manifest!

What is the charge, causing a DDOS? A succulent Chinese DDOS?

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 16 points 1 day ago

Yes, I believe Bluesky does exactly that - custom blocklists you can subscribe to. It would actually be a very useful feature.

Love it when trash takes itself out.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

wow. guess he wanted to make sure everyone realized how disengenous he was.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago

He was still on his alts after this, pleading his case

[–] weps@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

he wants Reddit but wants to be the boss of it

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 29 points 1 day ago
[–] dil@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Man is acting like the reddit devs, there is a reason you never see fuck spez or anyone complaining about the ceos/founders anymore, searching fuck spez will only show you stuff from 2023, like suddenly no one has any issue with him

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To be fair, anyone who would post "fuck spez" has probably left by now.

[–] Loce@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I meant left Reddit, likely to come here.

it is. could be argued he created a botnet.

[–] CrypticCoffee@lemmy.ml 29 points 2 days ago

It seems everyone is the problem but them.

A distinct lack of self-awareness and a huge pile of narcissism.

[–] StaticFalconar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isnt the entire point of lemmy designed to be able to go around this problem?

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

Well, it kind of did: the guy is gone and life goes on without him.

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So are there any good forks yet? Lol

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Theres already a couple. In a week this will be old news.

[–] realcaseyrollins@hilariouschaos.com 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Well, I'm not gonna click the link if it'll participate in a DDoS attack.
