I have a smart house, as in it's smart that nothing depends on an online service.

$200 feeder that works with a single RFID collar, and then $60/yr to record what your pet's eating huh. I'm always shocked at how gullible the people who buy trash like this are.

Fun bonus fact: it has a QR code on the collar for "added security". What do they possibly mean by this?

You could unironically build this at home, including the app

Not surprising given how many people wear a bracelet to track their own sleep and show off their sleep numbers or some other gamified bullshit normal ass life being commodified so a fake ass company can make millions providing nothing of actual value.

"The Cloud" is just someone else's computer.

Self-hosting is a beautiful thing

At least the Litter Robots work fully offline. Mines been disconnected for like 6 months now and it still does the very basic task of rotating 15 minutes after it detects weight

Are they good? I am so bad about scooping the litter and my tiny apartment starts to reek with two cats using it. I just can't justify spending $800 on an automated litter box though

It's 100% worth it. See if you can get a discount code from someone you know that has one.

I basically only have to worry about litter once a week and I have 2 large cats using it. Smell is also almost non-existent, just make sure you give it a scrub once a month or so.

Why does it need to be a subscription or in "the cloud"? Coffee makers have daily timers long before any IoT

SaaS stands for Software as a Shitass

the "cloud" is basically true miasma theory, everything that touches or produces the cloud is spreading bad grains

I would love to see a poll asking people what they think “the cloud” means

I’m truly curious because I had to explain it to my dad the other day lol

Why would you buy one anyway?
