@TechBean@mstdn.social My first car was a 1976 Ford Pinto station wagon that I bought from my cousin. It sat for over a year before I got my license and could drive it anywhere other than start it and sneak to the corner store and back. lol.

I remember driving it to school for the first time... December 17th, 1987. I was excited and embarrassed at the same time. LOL

It was cold that day, like low 20F. The heater fan blew good but it took forever, or so it seemed, to eat up. Light snow was falling so I had to argue to be able to drive.

@TechBean@mstdn.social I went on a Girl Scout trip and the host mother had a Geo Metro. Coming back from that trip I was determined it was my dream car. I've never had one, but someday...

@TechBean@mstdn.social My mom used to haul me and my sister around in a 74 pinto wagon, brown w/faux wood. Cool, it was not.

None of them. Had a beat up K-car and a diesel Rabbit, both of which really enjoyed breaking down.

@TechBean@mstdn.social don't know any of these cars. All US?

@FlohEinstein@chaos.social

Yeah, but the Pinto in particular had a reputation for exploding when hit from behind.

Future father-in-law has an early Chevette. Don't remember much other than it had something broken in suspension so it pulled hard to one side. I was constantly fixing minor crap with that one.

Drove my mom's Chevette. Red four door. Diesel.
Slow as hell, front heavy, bad braking, bucket.
Fit 10 people in it once.

For the record, my main ride was a used 1978 Audi Fox. 0-60 in a minute flat going downhill with the a/c off.

@TechBean@mstdn.social All cars are shitty. Some are useful. #SeeWhatIDidThere

my first car was a 1980 Mustang. In theory this sounds like an awesome car for a teenage boy. In reality, the QC at Ford was horrendous.

AC and heater both broke. Cruise control would randomly engage at 35 mph. The horn was on the turn signal selector so you would randomly honk at people while trying to change lane. One of the side mirrors fell off. Got about 16 mpg with a 10 gallon gas tank, so don’t plan on driving too far. Etc.
