"My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined"

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 26 points 6 days ago (4 children)

I recently heard a take of "what boomers don't understand about millennials and younger generations is that we don't expect anything good to happen ever again." I've talked to a lot of friends about this and the general consensus is "...yeah" not a single person has disputed it, even a little. When I mentioned this to my dad, he complained that his social security might be reduced in the next few years.

Oh, that thing we probably aren't even going to get? Sounds rough.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

I'll have fun paying for his before then, though

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I saw a debate where someone said "All of my friends are in their 30s. None of them have kids. None. Do you know how hard you have to abuse a mammal to make it stop having kids?"

And now I think we have an answer to that question.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

In my friend group, there is one person who has a kid. One. We're all late 20s, early 30s.

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I don't expect it, but I'm also not going to be complicit in them getting worse. Lethargy and cynicism means you've already lost, which is what the assholes at the top want.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 5 days ago

We will not go quietly into that good night.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

With you 100% I think millennials have been taught our whole lives that those at the top will take anything we don't nail down. We'll keep nailing things down, continuing with the expectation that the world will continue not to be made for us

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

i mean... i hope good things will happen, but yeah i don't expect them to. especially when we look at the climate crisis, we're probably one of the last generations that'll remember the world when it was relatively normal

i just hope i die before the whole planet is forced to ration drinking water

In no particular order, from where I am:

  • Linux/FOSS
  • Renewable energy
  • Crime rates
  • Consumer protection laws
  • Furry cons
  • Vegan & vegetarian products
  • The AI bubble (slowly)
  • Left-wing parties
[–] Brosplosion@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'd argue the AI bubble is still getting worse, just more slowly

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

It's starting to show its cracks (see Facebook), I'll count that as getting better.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Why do you think Linux and FOSS are getting worse? It's an enormous ecosystem.. hard to say one way or the other, but there are a lot of really good mature products right now.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I think they're responding to the original image which states "Is there anything that isn't getting worse?"

I agree. Things are NUTS right now but there's some truly incredible stuff going on in the open source anything space, and I'm happy to be here for it. :)

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Ok, yeah, I was just being dumb haha

[–] kshade@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

No no, these things are getting better in my opinion, in Germany/EU at least!

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Yes, I agree

If you want some good news: the earth is greener than it was 20 years ago. About 5% greener, mostly due to big tree planting projects in India and China, but also due to de-desertification efforts on the edges of the Saha, Forrest restoration in the Americas rewilding efforts in Europe (which are also introducing native wildlife back to Europe like wolves, bison and beavers) and even the redesigning of urban centres to include more green space.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Is it green enough to offset the amount of people & pollution from billionaires that we have now vs 20 years ago?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Is there ANYTHING not getting worse?

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't be silly, the fentanyl market is booming, and military spending is through the roof!

On a side note, I don't know who this guy in the suit is, but check his hard drive.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 5 days ago

Pretty sure this is that dude known as ReviewBro, who reviews fast food and stuff. Or used to, idk.

He was in a rather popular meme that goes "My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined." Lol

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 2 points 5 days ago

I just want to know why Jack Napier from Batman's 1980s flashbacks has a podcast?

[–] Bluedragon012@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

It will continue to get worse because humanity has failed. God stays in heaven because the devil has won.

Review Brah's weekly reports are the one sane center in my hurly burly world.

"Hell-o, everyonnnne!

You just read that in my voice, didn't you?"

[–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That is what people have been saying since ancient Greek times

Well, if the Greeks had had climate change they might’ve been right.
