Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Works fine until they use murderbots to give you death.

I never though of it as extreme but I never felt so close to the ones who said it in all sincerity until recently.

You have less and less to lose and, probably, see your sacrifice worthy to end wrong things happening around you.

Exactly this. I'm middle aged, haven't accomplished anything worthwhile with my life and wouldn't mind taking one for the team, if it would but have enough of an impact.

When the logic of suicide bombers starts sounding reasonable........ definitely a sign of a super healthy democracy

Yeah give me a good opportunity and I’ll do it. As long as it’s not in vain though.

I'd take out a fascist billionaire if I didn't have a family and was tired of life.

That's a recent societal phenomenon. There is a certain tendency for people to generally become more conservative the older they get (which makes sense, as you "settle down" and collect all the things associated with "aging"). Apparently this might be the first generation that goes the other way (which doesn't mean that every millennial is suddenly a socialist AntiFa terrorist but voting patterns indicate more leftist views than expected).

We aren't getting more conservative as we age. "Conservatism" moves toward the idealism of our youth.

The median age of the House is 57 (Mid GenX); Senate is 64 (Early GenX); President is fucking 80 (Elder Boomer). "Conservative" is currently what the Boomers and GenX'ers considered idealism when they came of age in the 1950s - 1970s.

The oldest Millenials are only 46. They aren't changing the pattern. They aren't yet in charge.

The conservatism correlates with age, but causation is actually having assets and wealth to conserve (which historically correlates with age also). Millennials by and large don't have shit, therefore conservatism has little to offer them.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 3 hours ago

That's what one might conclude from the observation, yes.

Hard to settle down and collect all the things associated with aging when nothing is affordable.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Millennials' midlife crisis is realizing that they owe more on their student loans than they intitally took out despite paying on them and scraping by for the last 20 years.

I really just think all these old people were hateful little fucks when they were young but want to make it sound like someone else made be this way

[–] herculeskan@lemmy.zip 18 points 12 hours ago

You're fucking right, it's not worth to live in a shitty society.

If you don't die for your ideas and will, nobody will do it

[–] TheBluetoofs@piefed.social 3 points 9 hours ago

I'm ready when ya'll are. Pitchfork's at the ready.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

If you have family you need to provide for,it does sound extreme again.
