labor 2026: smoking kills
wow, revelation, who knew?
I'm guessing not the party suggesting to cut the excise
They aren't known for their intelligence (liberals or one nation), but they are fully aware that smoking kills.
They are just showing their hand again, zero concern for the people, or anything besides themselves and their benefactors.
It should never has been a feasible way to gain votes though, a democracy is always going to end up bad if the voters are dropkicks.
Yes, I'm sure people will absolutely flock to cigarettes because they have become cheaper. That is exactly why people smoke: Price, nothing related to addiction, smell or taste.
There is too much stupidity in this world. If they cared about health rather than profiteering, they would've implemented a system that prevents purchasing cigarettes for people born after 2008. In 100 years, no one would be able to buy cigarettes (they'd also be deceased) and they'd stop selling them.
I mean, research even from other countries does show that the increased price has reduces smoking rates. The tax was reduced in Canada also and smoking rates increased.
Lots of people have quit smoking over the years due to the increased costs, I am one of them.
I agree that if the government were serious they would ban smoking, at the moment it isn't even illegal in public, and people frequently smoke in front of no smoking signs with no fear of prosecution.
Maybe Australians should stop being dickheads, and vote in a decent government for once, one that isn't pro racism, sexism, gambling, war etc
Unfortunately it's slippery slope.. people would lose their mind if it was outright banned. Alcohol also causes huge issues... Should that be banned?
Alcohol, the classic example for why outright bans without social acceptance don't work.
The difference is Alcohol has wide acceptance, whereas there are more people who hate being around smoke than there are smokers.
That's why bans on smoking indoors, in vehicles etc are widely accepted.
Too much tax $$$ to stop people smoking
