xbox releases usually come out on pc as well, and if you buy a copy on an xbox you also get it on pc so you dont have to buy it twice

I don't own a Nintendo since Nintendo DS so I'm out of the loop.
They've always been violently litigious against any kind of preservation effort. Apparently this disdain for preservation goes back to the Super Famicom/SNES generation.

(the Kirby in question is a Stålenhag-esque war machine engaged in a fight against ownership and preservation, Nintendo doesn't get a free pass for having a highly marketable mascot)
Good thing then that every machine that plays games is basically the same nowadays. 20 years ago this would have cost the team at least a year.

There might not be GamePass exclusives yet, but Amazon's Luna has exclusives such as the Batman: Caped Crusadar Chronicles game.

This seems like a totally needless blunder from Sony and an easy win for Microsoft.
If the game succeeds, Xbox now has the opportunity to have funded a spiritual sequel to Metal Gear Solid. But even if it doesn't go anywhere, they have broken Kojima away from Playstation, at the very least.
The amount of intellectual property that Sony has let depart or atrophy over the decades is wild.
Sony has been on an absolute tear destroying all positive user sentiment in the last like… three months. I’m honestly astounded that they would do this so close to a new console launch.
This is the type of bullshit you pull after you’ve become a monopoly, not while you have a very close competitor on the same hardware release cycle as you that will be more than ready to eat your lunch
They were almost a monopoly, Xbox was circling the drain. Sony pulled the trigger too early.
That's what is happening when a company is working for their shareholders and not for their costumers. AAA games are an expensive endeavor, and when penny pinchers and greedy management are the dominating force, the willingness to do something new instead of rehashing the same thing that has made a profit over and over is low.

Publisher. Someone to fund the project in exchange for a share in the profits.
Though with Sony, they also had access to the Decima Engine that was used for Death Stranding, so I'd guess that they're probably cut off from that as well. But it looks like their other game OD is using Unreal Engine, so it looks like they've already started transitioning away from that.

Probably a few could in Japan, but I don't know of any other western publishers of that scale besides Microsoft.
Xbox was actively angering large swathes of the gaming community. All Sony had to do was sit back and let them implode. Instead they’re trying to outdo Microsoft.

He's probably (and reportedly) not easy to work with, because he's an artist, and these tend to be uncompromising regarding the realization of the vision of their work. This collides with penny-pinching publishers and people who don't appreciate games as an artform.
2 weeks ago I got inundated by the yt algorithm of videoes trashing Kojima by 10 different channels. I was like...wtf is this?
Damn, progression these day aren't from upping their collaborate, it's to wait for your competitor kicking their own balls. So weird that Sony will evict a golden goose.
Sony gave Kojima $100 million for Death Stranding and it took years for it to break even. His games are cherished, but they're far from the biggest earners. I'd hate to be the budget guy constantly having Kojima blow up my phone saying he needs another $5 million because he wants a side character to be played by Pedro Pascal.
They would have recouped faster if they had the foresight to publish the game on PC as well as PlayStation. Kojima Productions made money on Death Stranding pretty quick because the PC sales were very good. Sony only got it from PlayStation sales.
That is true, i have my suspicion as well when two big publisher (konami and now sony) ditch him so suddenly, but then Sony isn't someone that's unfamiliar with huge and long investment and losing money. I bet they know they can't earn that sort of money without combining PS and Steam sales, since they basically stop their games from being published on elsewhere. With Kojima wanting to work with A lister, maybe someone in sony feels like it isn't worth their investment, since they hate money so much.
