If the choice is comply and let people be killed/be killed yourself or resist and be killed, I feel like that's not even a choice.

All I'm saying is there are a lot more possibilities than the one you presented. Violence is a serious can of worms, but take note that we're not the ones shouting this at a political rally. Get some perspective here.
Cruz did not pause or respond to the shouting, and it remains unclear whether he heard it from the stage.
i.e. this is a complete non-story; people shout things that are completely ignored (or even unheard) all the time?!
Extremism is part of our political discourse and always has been, even since the founding of the country.
