I do have to defend the Scottish here.
To be fair, yes - I found the Scottish more approachable so far :)
I live in Jersey (New), but a friend of ours is from Scotland, our kids are all the same age. He and his family (when they were over for the World Cup) are all just super easy to shoot the shit with. Soft-spoken and an accent makes them difficult to understand at times, but cool people. Got nothing but good things to say about the Scots based off my limited experience.

America's founding was a bunch of British rejects and people deemed "too annoying for Europe", along with their kidnapped, angry slaves.
Speak too loud? Get on the boat. Too religious? Get on the boat. Sold to us by West African slavers? Get on the boat.
I mean, Americans are a large and diverse group of people... But yes.

Seeing people through movies vs tourists.
If you can do a reasonably standard English accent, Americans will mentally add 20 IQ points to how intelligent they perceive you to be.
I was explaining to an English friend how people speaking with a Texan accent seem stupider to Americans. She replied, "Yeah we think the same about people with an American accent." I would have been offended, but like all Americans from the mid-Atlantic I don't have an accent. 😉
