Is there a community on Lemmy for connecting people who are learning a language?

For instance, I am learning Spanish, and I'm not yet at a level where I can converse with native speakers reliably, but it would be beneficial to have someone to practice with who was also learning, without having to pay for some tutoring service or something.

You can find people like that on Hellotalk (although that seems to become a bit of a pickup place lately) or there's a website called conversationexchange.com. Alternately, you can ask chatgpt to have a conversation with you and set how difficult you want the language.

Perhaps you could pitch it to the Spanish speaking lemmings. The most active seems to be Chilean

Oh, I would love this! I’m learning French and haven’t practiced outside of Duolingo yet.

I'm sure there are some French speakers on here! Are you learning for travel, or work, or fun? I don't speak any, but a lot of my family speaks Louisiana French and a variation of Quebec French
