You can tell an executive is lying when they open their mouth

[–] Seimhe@lemmy.world 107 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Or the technology has plateau’d and this is their cover story. I don’t know, but these two people are known liars.

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Model collapse is finally landing.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But...but... GPT6 Astra is AGI! I swear!

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

GPT6 couldn't even make me the most simple blueprint for merging 8 belts into 4 in Factorio. AGI it is most certainly not.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I refuse to pay for AI, so I only use the freely available GPT, and I can't comment on coding or other technical capabilities, but I feel like in the last couple of months, it has actually become dumber.

[–] GMac@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

For some time now I think its been the case that frontier models perform worse (or at least more inconsistently) at procedural activity.

[–] weimaraner_of_doom@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

LLM's plateaued quite some time ago. Everything since has been an attempt to keep the hype going.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah they spent a few years fine tuning but the gains were limited from the start.

[–] bobslaede@feddit.dk 10 points 1 week ago

My first thought also.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

They're out of money and this is their cover story.

[–] melfie@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The one thing that hasn’t plateaued yet is the ability of open models running on a gaming PC to match OpenAI and Anthropic are doing. I just watched a video on the Codacus YouTube channel where the guy is running Qwen 3.8 Flash, a 177B model, on his RTX 3060.

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At what quantisation? You're most likely better off running 27b dense or 35 moe

3 bit and it performed like Opus 5 according to his tests, though likely not at that level on every task.

Half a year ago Musk was saying this is a hard take-off for AI, what means AI would improve itself and you basically can't stop it anymore. Now he says he wants a pause. The hard take-off seems to have fallen flat.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 45 points 1 week ago

"Everyone else please stop development whilst we continue!"

[–] PierceTheBubble@lemmy.ml 39 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Once again... Because Chinese models keep forcing US AI companies to prematurely release their backstock of "future" iterations, meant to sustain the hype train: leading to plateauing, decreases in investor confidence, and ultimately the demise of the AI bubble. And are we referring to Sam Altman as "OpenAI boss" now? Because people might otherwise stop reading after: "Sam Altman says..."

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 week ago

Of course they want to hype their shit. Pretend the sky is falling (when it's not) so that you need regulation on AI so that open source and Chinese companies can be blocked out. Get that lock-in before the bubble bursts, fuck yeah.

Just yesterday AI told my brother that a run of 4 in crib is actually 2 runs of 3. I made him pull out the Bicycle official card game book and look up the rules because I knew that was wrong.

Why even use it if you have to double check everything it says?

[–] Tetsuo@jlai.lu 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

In some way, this doesn't change much to "search engines". Before AI you had to search online and verify the result. Now you ask an AI and have to check because it will hallucinate when it doesn't have all the data.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Search engines aren’t boiling the earth on a per-query basis

[–] Tetsuo@jlai.lu 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

True but unrelated to my point.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Wasn’t your point that it doesn’t change much? I’d argue that that’s a significant change.

[–] patatahooligan@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why even use it if you have to double check everything it says?

I have some bad news for you about how other people are using AI.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

It’s not news. I know.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone -5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

"AI" is not one thing, just like trusting one website is not trusting another website

Why use the internet when sometimes the thing posted is wrong?

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Because you can judge the source of the information yourself, whereas with AI, who tf knows?

What I do know is that it’s wrong enough that I should double check everything it says.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's a very good rule for everything you read

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

If you don’t trust the source, absolutely. However, other sources aren’t cooking the earth like AI does.

[–] Discountsoup@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its just a pile of math. They need to stop using the word intelligence. Intelligent and smart are the buzzwords these morons all crave when consuming the billionaire owned production lines like good little cattle. Train a dog. Theres some real AI. Or don’t. Idgaf.

[–] filcuk@feddit.uk 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We know it's not AI in the original sense of the word, but we don't exactly know what intelligence is either.
Human brains are but electricity going over logic gates, which boils down to 'pile of math' as well.

[–] Womble@piefed.world 1 points 5 days ago

The "original sense" of AI is that it was the term used by computer scientists as an umbrella term for efforts into machine decision making. It didn't turn into HAL from 2001 or EDI from mass effect for decades after that.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Stop running LLMs attached to an unsupervised eval yolo harness in an endless loop you fucking dinguses.

[–] sheetzoos@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

AI has never improved, nor will it ever. There’s nothing to worry about.
