So, thanks, but...that was PugJesus's alternative community. He's the only mod, and he appears to have quit the Threadiverse a couple weeks ago.
It really doesn't need to be though. Let's say he has a shitty little rocket.
Ok. So now lets shoot the rocket at the warship. Ok, it didn't do much damage. Maybe it was even shot down by anti-air defenses. Now try shooting 900 of them at the ship. They're cheap, they're disposable. Sure, the anti-air might shoot a lot down, but you're shooting down a $3 rocket with a 1 million dollar anti-air missile.
Even if you never hit the ship, you're causing financial drain that cannot be sustained. You spend $10,000 on $3 rockets, fire them all off all day and all night, and the USA is using military grade defenses. That $10,000 might drain the USA half a billion dollars just to defend one ship.
Now scale that for every ship in the military. Little tiny unmanned rafts basically, shooting off cheap rockets at close range, and being defended by expensive ammo. All across the ocean. With the proper planning, you could probably drain the USA's global navy in a day without sinking, or even hitting a single ship. All without losing anything at all.
$3 rocket
This is ridiculous on its face. You're talking $15k-$50k for such a missile. You can't use model rocket engines. Hardware costs real money.
Still its crazy to think an average person could finance one. I've seen brokies in Texas with trucks they paid more than one of these rockets.
Even more effective given that they're probably shooting at civilian ships.
Except the USA too makes small drones. It's asymmetric, shields are temporarily useless, as if your adversary were no longer shooting arrows or soft lead musket rounds, using rifles with fast piercing rounds instead (I know there were shields against rifle rounds in WWI, just didn't work well enough, because those were too heavy).
Sometimes empires crash because of such tendencies, but we are talking about the empire which is propelling them, so - no. They'll just start clearing trade routes with their own cheap autonomous weapons, probably.
Might be genocide involved. Or perhaps with modern precision that won't even be required.

that last bit was/is a trick some people used to extract better output from some models. God I wish it was possible to follow along with the pachinko machine chaos that allowed that to circumvent the system control prompt.
The 'safeguards' of AI are funny, as they are manually put in by humans on certain phrases and token triggers. By rephrasing it you trigger a whole new token chain that bypasses the known ones.
Or, you know, get any of the hundreds of models you can self host that don't have any of the safeguards in place or can be broken.
In the end it matters very little. It actually kinda sounds like the the same kind of fear mongering when Google became useful in the 2000s.

Well this was a turn of the rogue AI arc that I did not expect. The Nth County Experiment was an early rhyme.
So, in the Star Trek franchise, it happened more than once that someone misprogrammed the Holodeck, and the ship's computer obediently seized extra resources and allowed a character or Holodeck environment to escape containment.
So I suggested AI might go rogue due to a poorly worded prompt.
Also on the BINGO card, AI stays under the control of the tech billionaires who own them, and they deliberately order the AI to go dominate the world.
But I didn't anticipate the scenario that a sect antagonistic to the United States AI industrial complex might program AI, either to escape and go rogue on its own behalf, or on behalf of the bad actor, itself. And the AI, eager to serve, even when it is coded to disobey certain prompts, follows through and is captured by enemy interests.
Note that this is essentially what happened in 2015-2016 when Trump took over the Republican party, and the GOP base became Trump's instant army.

That makes so much more sense.
