You'd think it would be cheaper without the glass or plastic jar, but no.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 97 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I was just thinking, my peanut butter doesn't have nearly enough microplastics and forever chemicals

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But it does have banned emulsifiers. This stuff will give you a heart attack.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How well must they emulsify to be banned?

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, i mean the chemical they are using is banned in the US, and it got banned in 2024 or 2025. All they did was rename it and they are still using it

It's been proven that the emulsifiers in Americans peanutbutter causes heart attacks.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What's the name of the emulsifier?

The only ingredients in the peanutbutter I get are salt and peanuts.

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Carboxymethylcelluose, glycerol monostearate, distilled monoglyceride.

These are found in American peanutbutter. They cause ibs, gut bacteria death, and heart disease.

They are banned in a ton of countries.

They way you know you have real peanut butter is you can see the separation of oil, and you need to mix before using.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I used to prefer that stuff but I have kinda colon/stomach thing where the oil shoots straight through me and I shit it all out in like 30 minutes

[–] krisevol@lemmus.org 1 points 1 day ago

These chemicals cause the breakdown of your mucus layer, causing (leaky gut)

These chemicals are what's doing it.

Do you believe how peanut butter is currently packaged in giant plastic jars with plastic lids, is better somehow?

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago

on styrofoam no less. Just sell it in a bag and get it over with

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 43 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't believe this image is real. There aren't any finger sized impressions in the splats.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I know I'd be sticking a dick on those to make an impression with future buyers.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

i think if you zoom in it shows you already tried. but gotta zoom in real close.

^you got a small dick.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

True my dick is tiny but I have a huge one I use to make impressions.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

always good to have spares

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One for casual, one for formal.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My other cock is ranked.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Please put your pocket rocket through the dishwasher before touching unpurchased food with it. We don't know where it has been.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

It hasn't been anywhere of note, I assure you. If you don't believe me, look at my face.

I only touch the plastic wrap.

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 51 points 2 days ago (4 children)

What currency is that? $12.25 American seems like a lot for peanut butter, especially BYOJ peanut butter.

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thank goodness we finally get a choice. Back in my day if you wanted Trinidad, you had to have Tobago too!

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Damn it Jim I'm a doctor, not a geologist

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Or a geographer...

I'm sorry - I can't help myself

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Good link

The photo shows a nonstandard, but not unheard of, way of selling peanut butter in Trinidad and Tobago.

FWIW, I've seen PB sold like this at local Amish stores as well... so not necessarily anathema in the USA.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Amish use styrofoam and plastic packaging? That would seem to entirely miss the point..

[–] Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, and extruded plastic too... I've never quite got how they got it, I think they're a subsect of the true Amish. They're allowed to interact with us heathens, as long as it's to take our money lol

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s in with the tubs of Kerrygold Soft Spread, so this is bougie artisan splats of PB

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They sell kerrygold at Walmart. It's definitely some of the pricier butters there, but it's not exclusive to the bougie places.

Why are they significantly different weights? Enough to be a $3.15 difference?

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Some people want less, I say this is a win for consumers.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Other than buying a resealable smaller jar that will keep a good while?

34.45 per kilogram I think

not sure what it usually costs per kilogram

but yeah, it doesn't look too different

I don't think this is USD

I wouldn't be surprised, considering Trump's administration.

[–] Nonprophet@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Does this peanut butter have cocaine in it or flecks of gold? $$$$

[–] Hexadecimalkink@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Garbage packaging.

[–] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

Put your d—

[–] danielfm123@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

You know how easy is too make peanut butter? Americans place cook and stop giving money to good industry.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It’s incredibly cheap at the store and it’s not like homemade is better as long as you don’t buy the doctored stuff at the store. Also, do you really expect everyone to have a dedicated grinder in their home? That is incredibly environmentally wasteful for no benefit.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You at least need a food processor or a good blender.

Peanuts themselves aren't all that cheap. The best you could do is get cans from costco, they sell them as a loss leader.

However easy it is, its easier to work 15 minutes and buy a jar at the grocery store.
