YSK it's an incredible amount of arrogance that a Christian believes they are living in the end times. Since the time of Jesus people have assumed they were living in the end times, that they were going to be "lucky" enough to leave behind all of the evil sinners and that they would be saved. If you have the mindset that you are a Christian and you will be saved, then to also assume it is the end times and Jesus is coming back is pure arrogance, because everyone before you believed the same things. "But it's different". No it's not. People thought it with the inquisitions, with the industrial revolution, slavery, every time they thought "this must be the end times" and it wasn't. It's hubris to assume that this will be the end times and you are living through it.

Jesus himself said no one would know, that it is unpredictable, so to think you can predict it is itself arrogance in the face of Jesus.

In the first four verses we get the intended recipients and timeline. When John says "Jesus told me to tell the 7 churches in Asia about some shit that is literally about to happen" did he mean:

1. Jesus told him to tell the 7 churches in Asia about some shit that is literally about to happen
2. Jesus told him to tell the churches in foreign lands of which neither of them had any knowledge about some shit that's gonna go down 2000 year's later regarding a communications platform?

I'll give you a hint, it was the first option--and that's the charitable take.

Given that this was written about 60 years after Jesus' death, Jesus didn't actually talk to John. At best your looking at allegory or some highly sensationalized regional conflict. The fact that Revelations even made it into the cannon several years after John's spectacular failure is shocking. You wouldn't trust someone claiming to hear directly from god today, why would trust someone claiming to hear from her 2000 years ago?

Finally, YSK gamatria is BS. Humans evolved languages, words, numbers, and spelling to communicate. The idea that a numerical equivalent or position of a letter in a string unilaterally conveys a deeper meaning is laughable, especially when the deeper meaning is allegedly a Hebrew number being transliterated to an English acronym for a technology 2000 years later.

Uhm.. this is not how Hebrew Gematria works. The Hebrew numerals were inspired by Greek numeric system, in which letters have numeric values to be added together (you're concatenating digits instead).

While vaw has the numeric value of 6, a "vaw vaw vaw" actually results in 18 (6+6+6). What you'd expect to be 666 would be any permutation of, say "taw resh samech vaw" (e.g. "resh samech vaw taw", "resoth" "רסות", which seemingly means nothing but makes more grammatical sense to have a final taw) because they're respectively 400, 200, 60 and 6 (thus adding up to 666). Any sequence of Hebrew letters adding up to 666 would be actual Gematria...

...however, the New Testament, where the Book of Revelations pertains, wasn't even written in Hebrew, it was written in Koine Greek. What gets translated as "666" or "six hundred and sixty-six" is a direct transliteration from three Greek letters (I don't remember which are which, as I'm writing this reply mostly from my own memory) with the respective numeric values 600, 60 and 6 adding up to 666. Some argue the second Greek letter was originally written as the equivalent for 10 (and ended up unreadable due to how the papyrus suffered the effects of time), thus the so-called "number of the beast" would be 616.

Finally, virtually any moment in time could be pointed as "these are the times as prophesied in Revelations". It has long been a silly moving goalpost. As far as I know, the ones trying to bring about an apocalypse on Earth are the ones who believe in the Book of Revelations so badly they're literally tempting "god" despite the "do not tempt god" rule written somewhere in the same bible.

Fun fact: Most modern Bible scholars now agree that the book of Revelation was actually referring to the fall of the Roman empire (which was persecuting Christians at the time), and in no way refers to a future apocalypse.

honeslty trump is the one that seemed to have the most elaborate ties. Multiple ways to tie him to the "seemingly dead but reviving" of the antichrist (assasination attempt, loss in 2020, etc...).

Either way though point still remains. From what I gather the most historically plausible interpretation is it was intended to be referencing nero ceasar, particularly because the number changing between 616 and 666 based on the translation.

At the end of the day, when you are working backwards, you'll always find a way to make the pieces fit. Which make all of it a complete waste of time. If you want to find a way to make it hitler, or obama, or AI, or climate change, or spongebob squarepants... and you've got the time, you'll find a way to make it work.

Reminds me a bit of when I used to DM, My players used to think I was like an M Night shamalan of DMing because I'd drop some really cryptic prophesies and hints at the begining, and in spite of past me being more of a seat of the pants DM that let them take the plot in whatever direction they felt like going. Those cryptic prophesies always paid off at the end... how did I do it? Easy I just randomly made up complete gyberish for the prophesies with zero plan for what I wanted to do with them... took note of what they were, when I felt like we were near a climax of something, I either made very slight changes to what was currently going on to make it fit, or just had an NPC phrase something in a way that made the players think of the gyberish from before and let them write connections for me.

No. Those aren’t prophecies, they’re fairy tales. Also, the number was not 666. That’s a mistranslation. It was 616 (in Greek, not Hebrew), which was a reference to Nero, who was the actual target of those verses. It wasn’t a prophecy, but contemporary criticism.

This gematra numerology is bullshit and based on bad translations of Iron Age superstitions that we should have left behind millennia ago. People need to grow up and live in the real world.
