My dog Denver, who died a couple years ago. She was so awesome, my little buddy. Lived 18 great years, miss her every day.
As long as there are stray animals, that is the only moral choice.

Dragon. And anyone who says otherwise isn’t being completely honest with themselves. Everyone wants a dragon.
Can I have a dog-sized dragon? Smaug would not fit in our living room and our budget can't manage dozens of sheeps every week.
What about an aboleth or a tarrasque? Either one would be pretty cool.
Hells, I'd take a flumph.
Some kind of a wild cat like Ocelot would be cool assuming they could behave themselves but since they can't, a normal house cat is just fine too.

In that case, yes it's problematic.
I'd have my cat. If the devil came acallin' I'd sell my soul for me and the lil guy to be immortal. I could spend eternity in his company and it wouldn't be enough.

You haven't considered the horrific things that would undoubtedly happen, especially given infinite time, if you were to follow through on that sale.

I've done this with chickens and ducks and loved it. Emus are basically just giant chickens anyway.

My previous cat from childhood until me early twenties and a Savannah cat.
A common magpie, specially if it can come and go as it pleases and I don't have to do much.

Even though I don't really want to get a pet because I don't want to get too attached and end up heartbroken when it dies! If I ever change my mind, I'd get a dog. I also really like owls in general, but I don't want to get a bird just to keep it locked in a cage for the rest of its life just because I want to feel like Harry Potter lol!

i'd like a parrot or toucan if it had enough freedom. Unfortunately I don't think you can let them fly around by themselves without them leaving you forever or becoming an invasive species. Very region dependant pet.
Honestly gotta have cats though. They're so much fun and they take good care of themselves. I would similarly only have a cat if i had a big garden for it
A human. But not in a way that they have any subjectivity. An illiterate, docile, and subservient human being that looks exactly like me and does what it is told to do.

A cat, because I love cats. But I live in the city, I think it's not appropriate for a cat to only live inside an apartment, and you can't avoid buying meat for feeding the cat.
cats should not let be free roaming though... It's dangerous for them and the wildlife.

That's not really a study at all. That's just somebody referring to an actual published study and saying "I don't think so".
It's more someone referring to a published study and pointing out that every single one of the news articles written about it are misrepresenting its findings.
